With almost three decades of experience in the aviation industry, Edgar Alacan serves as the managing director of jets.com, a firm that he co-founded in 2008. Alongside this, Edgar Alacan supports several nonprofits, such as Pietro’s Fight, which raises awareness of and funds for research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
The organization recently held an event, called “Pietro’s Fight to the Finish Line,” which took place on September 24 and raised funds for the organization and DMD research. Dayna Scarso, who co-founded the charity after her son, Pietro, was diagnosed with the disease, noted that there was a large turnout for the event.
In addition, she highlighted that members of the nonprofit, as well as other event participants, were celebrating the news that Exondys 51 was approved for DMD patients by the Food and Drug Administration. Also known as Eteplirsen, it is the first drug to be approved to treat muscular dystrophy patients, a move that was welcomed by many organizations.
