The Air Charter Safety Foundation's ASAP Program

As co-founder of business aviation leader Jets.com, Edgar Alacan guides a company that generates more than $40 million in revenue each year. In addition to his leadership role with Jets.com, Edgar Alacan belongs to professional organizations such as the Air Charter Safety Foundation (ACSF).

One of the largest professional organizations dedicated to the charter airline industry, ACSF focuses on improving safety standards and regulations through educational tools, legislative advocacy, and risk-management programs. Among other initiatives, ACSF and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) jointly operate the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP).

A voluntary self-reporting program, ASAP reduces risk in the charter aviation industry by encouraging members to identify and report possible flight hazards and other safety issues. Among other concerns, ACSF encourages ASAP participants to report operational deficiencies, regulatory compliance issues, and failures to follow safety protocol. All reports are investigated by the FAA and, assuming the violations are not criminal in nature, responded to through non-punitive measures.

Participation in ASAP offers numerous benefits to charter jet operators. In addition to making the skies safer for operators and travelers alike, the program encourages intra-industry cooperation and provides operators with valuable safety guidance and data to improve service.

Food, Beverage, and Entertainment Advantages of Private Jet Travel

Edgar Alacan is a New York City-based entrepreneur who leads Jets.com and provides customer services that make private aircraft travel safe and seamless. Among the advantages of private jet travel that Edgar Alacan emphasizes is flexibility, with the possibilities of onboard food and drink virtually unlimited.

Many savvy private jet travelers make meal planning a part of the trip and enjoy perusing menus that include catering options such as sushi, gourmet pizza, Thai food, salads, and pasta. In addition, organic, vegetarian, and vegan choices are easily accommodated. Travelers are also free to bring whatever food and drink they wish onboard, which makes inflight meals a truly customizable experience.

Private jets also offer passengers a full bar and an array of juices and energy and soft drinks. Some passengers have a favorite accompaniment to their meal, such as a bottle of wine, and that is allowed as well. Entertainment is not limited to a laptop or cell phone in the well equipped cabin, as private jets offer a menu of movie and game options, often on a large screen.

Private Jet Travel Amenities

Based in New York, Edgar Alacan leads Jets.com as cofounder and oversees more than 50 employees within an expanding firm in the private aviation market. Edgar Alacan has positioned his company as one that maintains long term client relations and arranges timely, cost effective itineraries spanning domestic and international locations.

While private jet travel is not inexpensive, it provides superior comfort, flexibility, convenience, and privacy, often at a price below that of commercial first-class. For those who place a premium on their time, savings are measured not only in more direct routes and airport locations, but in the way in which the private jet can become an “airborne executive suite.” Sought after amenities that are standard on most flights include reliable onboard wifi and satellite phone connectivity.

A full bar is another amenity that many passengers enjoy, as well as the ability to accommodate music, game, and in-flight entertainment requests. When travel coincides with meal times, private jet caterers are able to deliver nearly any type of meal, from fresh seafood to gourmet hamburgers.

Ins and Outs of Baggage on Charter Jet Flights

Edgar Alacan, a respected presence in the private aviation industry, leads Jets.com as co-founder, and coordinates seamless private jet travel around the world. One question posed by Edgar Alacan’s clients is how baggage requirements compare with commercial flights.

One major benefit for private jet passengers is in the amount of baggage that can be carried. While there are jet baggage restrictions, depending on type of aircraft and number of passengers flying, the weight and space allocated tends to be far higher than with commercial airlines.

Smaller private jets often do not have overhead bins, which means that carry-on luggage should comfortably fit by the feet or on the lap. In addition, not all private jets feature pressurized baggage compartments, which can present restrictions when it comes to items with gas and liquid contents.

Many regular travelers enjoy another aspect of private jet travel, the ability to easily transport animal companions with them, such as cats and dogs within proper carrying cases. Passengers can also take personal care of valuable items from paintings to musical instruments while in transit.

Managing Jet Lag - Should You Sleep on the Flight?

Over the course of a decade, Edgar Alacan has developed Jets.com into a leader in the private travel industry. Through Jets.com, Edgard Alacan and his team connect individuals to a wide variety of different private aircraft that can be booked for everything from business trips to vacation travel.

When traveling longer distances, individuals may struggle to adjust to a new time zone. One of the strategies that travelers often employ is sleeping during the flight, but this is not always the best option.

A behavioral sleep medicine specialist at the University of Chicago suggest that people use time on the plane to relax or work rather than sleep if it’s daytime at the destination city. The decision of whether or not to sleep largely depends on the duration of the flight and the direction of travel.

Ideally, individuals should prepare for jet lag by adjusting to the new time zone starting a few days before leaving. People usually sleep best in their own beds, so it can be helpful to make a gradual shift in sleep patterns before even setting foot on the plane. When flying west, individuals should push their bedtime later. Eastward travel requires an earlier bedtime to ease the adjustment.

How Jets.com Works with Terrapass on Climate Change

Jets.com co-founder Edgar Alacan manages the private jet company’s day-to-day operations. Committed to environmental sustainability, Edgar Alacan’s Jets.com works with Terrapass to offset its carbon footprint.

No matter how hard organizations work to reduce their carbon footprints, most can never really get to zero, but they can offset their carbon emissions by funding projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions beyond what they would achieve with individual action. Simply put, these companies purchase carbon offsets from companies such as Terrapass, which channel the funds to emission-reduction projects. Carbon offset certificates are issued to the purchasing companies.

A single carbon offset certificate represents the reduction of 2,205 pounds of carbon dioxide. That’s one metric ton removed from the atmosphere, and a huge stride in fighting climate change.

Carbon-emission reduction projects reduce greenhouse gases in several ways: by trapping and either storing or destroying the gases and by producing renewable energy, eliminating the need for using fossil fuels.

VLJ Private Jets Available through Jets.com: An Overview

A successful entrepreneur, Edgar Alacan served as a private jet coordinator for several years before cofounding Jets.com in 2008. Edgar Alacan serves as a board member of PietrosFight.org in addition to his role as managing director of Jets.com

Based in New York City, Jets.com provides clients with on-demand access to safe and luxurious private jet accommodations. The firm offers access to a full fleet of private jets that range from mid-size and heavy jets to super and very light jets (VLJs).

Jets.com currently offers two VLJ aircraft, which are the smallest private jet class. The first, the Citation Mustang, seats up to five passengers in a cabin close to 10 feet in length. A performance inspired jet, the Mustang can reach up to 2.8 hours of range in addition to providing the efficiency characteristic of lighter jets.

The other VLJ aircraft offered by Jets.com is the Phenom 100. Similar to the Citation Mustang, the Phenom can reach up to 2.8 hours of range. However, it incorporates a BMW-designed interior with next-generation technology to provide comfort, style, and performance in a single package. Although the Phenom’s cabin is slightly longer than the Mustang’s it seats one less person, with a total capacity of four passengers.

New International Arrivals Option for Private Jet Operators

The recipient of a bachelor’s degree in business management from Brooklyn College, Edgar Alacan has led Jets.com, a provider of private jet travel, since he cofounded the company in 2008. In his leadership position with Jets.com, Edgar Alacan pays close attention to the latest news and developments in the private and charter jet industry.

Though private jet travel offers numerous conveniences and benefits to businesses, organizations, and other travelers, flying internationally can still pose inconveniences, especially when local airports are not equipped to handle customs and other border control responsibilities. Now, though, private jet operators and travelers have another option for international arrivals along the Mid-Atlantic coast.

In May 2018, Georgetown Air Services, the fixed-base operator (FBO) that provides services at Delaware Coastal Airport in Sussex County, Delaware, stated the airport can now handle incoming international flights. The announcement comes on the heels of an agreement between the airport and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol that allows for international arrivals at the airport as long as 72 hours advance notice is provided.

The international capability is the latest in a series of improvements at the airport. In recent years, Georgetown Air Services lengthened the airport’s runway and redesigned the approach lighting as part of a $40 million infrastructure project.

The Jets.com Assure Safety Program

Edgar Alacan is a graduate of Brooklyn College who has worked in the private jet industry for the past decade. A member of the National Business Aviation Association, Edgar Alacan currently serves as the co-founder and managing director of Jets.com.

Based in New York City, Jets.com provides clients with custom private jet trips. The organization maintains a fleet of jets that range in class size from light to turbo. Regardless of jet class, Jets.com emphasizes a "safety first and luxury second" philosophy.

Safety standards at Jets.com are governed by the organization’s Assure Aviation Safety System program. Rather than simply meet minimum private jet safety benchmarks, known as FAR 91, Assure requires that pilots and aircraft meet more rigorous requirements. Known as FAR 135, these extensive safety benchmarks include more comprehensive drug and alcohol testing and longer rest requirements for crew members.

The Assure program also sets additional runway safety standards and requires weather reporting before landings. Moreover, the program ensures pilots are properly vetted under the Pilot Records Improvement Act of 1996.

For additional information on Assure safety standards, visit www.jets.com.

Tips for Private Jet Travel

Edgar Alacan, a respected presence in the private aircraft charter business, guides Jets.com, which combines luxury travel with competitive pricing. Edgar Alacan and his firm emphasize safety while providing a tailored, customer-centric experience.

For those who are new to private air travel, the basic inflight rules are the same as those in any commercial or private setting, and begin with proper behavior. Within a confined space, good manners go beyond simple etiquette and involve some critical safety issues.

Keep expectations realistic. While a private jet offers travel tailored to a specific destination and can be much faster than commercial alternatives, this does not give the passenger the right to make demands such as last-minute itinerary changes.

Although private jets can be booked just hours in advance, guaranteeing availability and ensuring that a well rested crew is ready for transportation is a vital part of the equation. To avoid last minute hassles and potentially missing or being late for important events, it makes sense to book travel as early as possible. One pointer for tech-savvy first time private jet travelers is that, unless a photo opportunity suggested by the host, it may be best to keep the flight discreet and off of social media.
